How To Layer Skincare Products

One of most asked questions of skincare experts is: how do I layer my skincare products? Does moisturizer go before eye cream? Do I apply eye cream before serums? Well, here it is:

Cleanser

The first step in your skincare routine should always be to cleanse, of course! It’s important to cleanse first thing in the morning and right before bed. When you sleep, your skin excretes oils so you want to start your day off by cleansing any oils that are left on your skin. Additionally, it’s important to cleanse your face to prepare your skin for all the performance ingredients in everything you put on next. And at night, you want to cleanse your skin of all the dirt, oil, and makeup that has accumulated throughout the day.

Serums

Next, you’ll want to concentrate on applying your serums. Serums typically have the most performance ingredients, so you want those to get into the skin before you layer on thicker products that won’t allow those ingredients to get in as efficiently. It’s important to always apply your serums from the thinnest viscosity to the thickest. You’ll also want to give each product a few minutes to get into your skin before applying the next product. We suggest cleansing and applying your first serum, brush your teeth, then apply your next serum. Continue on in this manner for the rest of your products. After all, there’s flossing, brushing and styling your hair, getting dressed. We’re kidding! It’s best to choose just 2 or 3 serums that focus on your different skin concerns. You don’t want to overdo it!

Eye Cream

The next product you’ll want to apply is your eye cream. You want to apply any eye product with your ring finger, as this is the gentlest finger, and the eye area is very delicate. Start by applying the product under your eyes and then gently tap around the eye area towards the corners of your eyes, up and around to the brow bone and the lid.

Moisturizer

Then you will apply a moisturizer if you use one. The type of moisturizer you use will depend on your skin type. If you have really dry skin or you live in a dry or cold climate, you will likely opt for a deep, intense hydrating moisturizer. If you have oily skin or live in a mild or humid climate, you may opt for a light moisturizer, or no moisturizer at all.

Sunscreen

The final step in your skincare routine should always be sunscreen! If you wear makeup, it should go on top of your sunscreen. Again, the type of sunscreen that you choose is going to depend on your skin type and preferences on finish. Luckily, TiZO has something for everyone! Do you have oily skin or prefer a matte finish? You’ll love TiZO3 or TiZO2. Have dry skin or love a dewy look? TiZO Ultra Zinc Tinted or Non-Tinted will be your daily go-to. Enjoy that matte finish but tend to be a little dry? Your answer is TiZO AM Replenish Lightly Tinted or Non-Tinted. And in case you didn’t notice – these are all available both tinted and non-tinted, so we’ve got your preferences covered there too!

There it is! The proper way to layer your skin care products to get the most out of performance ingredients and keep your skin protected and healthy!
